Concern about video game ratings in Hills

NEARLY 90,000 people have expressed their desire to have an R18+ classification for video games in Australia but a decision is still to be made.

The petition was a team effort of GAME and the PAL Gaming Network and was signed by 89,210 people at GAME’s stores last year.

Of these, 350 signatures came from GAME Castle Hill where store manager Lawrence Roque said many customers are concerned by R18+ games being labelled as MA15+ in Australia.

“We get lots of parents who are always concerned about what’s right for their kids and what is more for young adults,”

Cutting Couples Wedding Planning Confusion

A couple gets engaged and they are filled with excitement for the future. Then they start to plan their perfect wedding.

PM faces discord on gambling reforms

Prime Minister Julia Gillard is facing internal discontent over gambling reforms promised as part of a deal that helped Labor retain power.

A member of her ministry has warned a blanket approach to tackling problem gambling will hurt small clubs in his electorate concerns backed by other regional members.

Limits on withdrawals from ATMs and poker machine technology to limit the losses of problem gamblers are the points of contention.

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie received a string of commitments in exchange for supporting Labor's bid to form minority government and stressed yesterday the agreement was ''non negotiable''.

Ombudsman critical of AFP practices

Commonwealth Ombudsman Allan Asher has criticised the Australian Federal Police's handling of complaints in a review of police practices, and used an ACT Policing case as an example of operational problems.

The Ombudsman's review, which examined data relating to 399 complaints closed between 1 August 2009 and 28 February 2010 — plus the 109 excessive use of force complaints made since January 2007, 80 from members of the public — was tabled in Federal Parliament today.

It noted that the AFP cleared themselves over the use of excessive force in all reviewed cases, and also noted failings in police methods.

LIVELY: Kelpie cross Maggie had a bark worse than her bite.

THIS is a tale of two black dogs. One is a killer. The other had a bark worse than her bite.

The first black dog was the name war-time British PM Winston Churchill had for his depression. The second black dog was my family’s life-saving hound, Maggie.

The two black dogs are relevant to our flood-hit Ipswich because they prove that the black dog of depression can bite anyone. They prove that with help, the black dog of depression can be tamed.

Many flood-affected Ipswich residents are

Police investigating the robbery of a mixed business in Hurlstone Park last year have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

Just before 4pm on Sunday, June 20, a man contronted the elderly attendant at the Floss St mixed business.

Police were told the man used his body to shove the attendant out of the way and removed cash from the register before escaping.

Ashfield police would like to speak to the man depicted in the images as they think he could have important information about the incident.
