THE Bulldogs have stood down prop Ryan Tandy (pictured), who is due in court on March 2 after allegedly providing false evidence to a police investigation.

The investigation centres on a betting plunge on the Cowboys opening scoring with a penalty goal against the Bulldogs in North Queensland last August.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, a day after police seized documentation and mobile phones from his Bronte home.

Items were also seized from homes at Punchbowl and Strathfield.

The charge follows the establishment of a strike force set up to investigate alleged illegal betting activity surrounding the round 24 NRL match.

Firearms and Organised Crime Squad Commander Det-Supt Arthur Katsogiannis said it was a serious investigation.

“It’s not a game, this is real life, and police will continue with their investigations in an endeavour to uncover the truth and ensure justice is done,” he said.

“Detectives will continue to use every available resource to uncover the truth and complete their investigation.”

In a statement, the Bulldogs said they excused Tandy from all club duties including his playing and training obligations.

“Following receipt of legal advice, it has been determined that it would be in the best interests of the club and Mr Tandy that he should be excused from his obligations until further notice,” the statement said.

“The club makes no comment about the charges laid against Mr Tandy or their merits.

“These are matters before the court and Mr Tandy is entitled to answer those charges in due course.

“The club has informed Mr Tandy that it reserves its rights concerning his contract as the situation develops and more information becomes known.”

The club said it would consider any request by Tandy for support services.
