Abby Safe

US teenage sailor Abby Sunderland has been rescued from her stricken yacht by the French fishing vessel Ile De La Reunion 2000 nautical miles off the West Australian coast.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority's Rescue Coordination Centre said the 16-year-old was was safe and in good health when she was picked up at 7.45PM on Saturday night.

Miss Sunderland may be transferred to one of two other ships which are heading to the site. One ship is bound for Australia and the other would likely return to its home port at La Reunion in the Indian Ocean.
