FORMER Guantanamo Bay inmate Mamdouh Habib is anticipating the potential release of classified documents relating to his detention at the US military prison in Cuba.

“I expect something,” Mr Habib said early this morning.

More than 250,000 diplomatic cables, many of which are classified, will be released in stages by the controversial WikiLeaks whistle-blower website, founded by Australian Julian Assange.

Australian officials are reported to also be on the lookout for information discussing Habib and fellow Guantanamo detainee, David Hicks.

A government committee has been established to analyse the documents as they are leaked to determine if Australia’s interests are at risk due to the release of the information.
