Gilroy College will present Shout: The Legend of the Wild One featuring year 10 student Ian Knighton

GILROY College year 10 student Ian Knighton will make his singing debut in the school’s production of Shout: The Legend of the Wild One.

Based on the book by John-Michael Howson, David Mitchell and Melvyn Morrow, on the life and times of Johnny O’Keefe, it will feature all the razzle and dazzle this musical is known for.

Music teacher and show director Veronica Crowe said the production would feature up to 40 students and would be full of high energy.

“Rehearsals have been full-on, but as it is a whole school production this has brought everyone together to help celebrate an Australian icon who opened the doors for Australian artists to perform overseas,” Mrs Crowe said.

Ian said his music teacher advised him to audition for the lead role after she heard him sing.

“I have never sung in front of an audience before, so this is really daunting for me,” he said.

“I have been rehearsing heaps and it has been really interesting to learn about Johnny O’Keefe.”

Shout: The Legend of the Wild One will be held at Gilroy Catholic College Hall from November 17-19. Tickets: $20 adults and $10 children. Bookings: 9680 2311.
