Castle Hill RSL recognised for going green

Waterless urinals, water harvesting and timers on plasmas are just a few ways a Castle Hill business is helping the environment.

Castle Hill RSL’s achievements in the sustainable use of natural resources and climate change were recognised last night (August 16) in the 2010 Green Globe Awards hosted by Climate Change and Environment Minister Frank Sartor.

The club received one of the 10-year achievement certificates and was recognised alongside other leading NSW green organisations Astra Zeneca, Cannon Australia and New England University.

“Castle Hill RSL is very proud to be a recipient of the 10-year achievement certificate,” Castle Hill RSL Group president and chairman Warren Glenny said.

“This award demonstrates Castle Hill RSL’s dedication to the sustainability of the community and our commitment to leading the way in the NSW Club industry to create the most sustainable club.”

Some innovations in place include:

* Air curtains to keep conditioned air from being lost on opened doors;

* Boilers replaced with heat pumps at C2K;

* Replacement of boilers to heat the pools with more efficient heat pumps;

* Installation of tinted glass to reduce the heat coming into the club and reduce heat loads;

* All cardboard and paper bundled and recycled by Cardboard King;

* Waterless urinals;

* Water savers on taps;

* Timers on plasmas.
