We’re mobilising in the Hills

We’re mobilising in the Hills

HILLS residents have earned a huge thumbs-up from Hills Council for their efforts and enthusiasm in the MobileMuster campaign, with 41kg of mobile phones collected in the last 10 months.

The council started the campaign in May 2009 by placing collection tubes in its customer service centre and libraries.

“We are delighted local residents have taken part in our mobile phone recycling program,” Mayor Peter Dimbrowsky said.

“We hope we can continue to deliver these outstanding recycling results and are calling on residents who haven’t yet cleaned out their drawers of unwanted mobile phones, batteries and accessories to do so now.”

MobileMuster is the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry and is funded by 16 leading mobile phone manufacturers and network carriers.

It is estimated there are currently more than 16 million disused mobile phones cluttering people’s homes and offices around Australia.

More than 90 per cent of materials in mobile phones can be recovered, such as nickel, cadmium, cobalt, gold, silver, copper, plastics and other metals.

MobileMuster collection tubes can be found at council’s customer service centre administration building and at all Hills Shire libraries.

Nominations to recognise the recycling efforts of councils at the 2010 MobileMuster Local Government Awards are now open.
