Assistant NSW Police Commissioner Frank Mennilli sends out warnning

Message from Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli Region Commander South West Metropolitan Region (SWMR).

The 2400 police men and women who work in the South West Metropolitan Region would like to wish their communities of Ashfield, Bankstown, Burwood, Cabramatta, Camden, Campbelltown, Campsie, Fairfield, Flemington, Green Valley, Liverpool, Macquarie Fields, Marrickville and Rosehill a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

``As we enter this holiday period I would like to remind everyone driving on the roads to be vigilant and remember to take suitable breaks. During this time of the year we find a number of people are killed or seriously injured on our roads unnecessary.

``Please slow down and drive within your limits.

``If you intend on consuming alcohol this holiday season do so responsibly and in moderation. Know your limits, but above all do not drink and drive. If you’re going to drink alcohol and drive you will be arrested. Look after your mates, friends and family to ensure everyone enjoys this holiday season in safety without becoming a statistic.

``Please be mindful of the fact whilst you’re out there enjoying the holiday period the police men and women of the SWMR will be on the streets ensuring your safety.

``All my staff have been advised to take swift action against any person breaking the law and in particular those of you who wish to participate in drunken and anti-social behaviour.

``If you intend going away for the holiday period please ensure your premises are secure. Also don’t leave gifts or valuables in site in your vehicle.

``If you’re away for an extended period ensure your mail is collected and lawns mowed etc to reduce the likelihood of offenders being made aware of your absence.

``I would like to wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.’’
