Hills residents looking to work close to home

IF there is no train to get us to work, bring the work closer to us.

While Hills residents may wait until 2024 to have access to a station, Hills Shire Council is encouraging businesses to head for the Hills.

At a Western Sydney Business Connection meeting on August 4, Premier Kristina Keneally said: “Sydney needs to change its mentality that everyone will live on the fringes and commute into the centre for work.”

The council wants to get an important message to people who face a long daily commute to work tell your boss you want to work close to home.

Its industry development officer Nick Keyko and Alexandra Knezovic from Hills property development and investment company Capital Corporation are meeting regularly with other business owners to form the Invest Sydney Hills Group.

The group is exploring ways to attract companies to expand or relocate to the Hills.

“We need your help to create more local jobs, you can be an ambassador for the Sydney Hills by telling your boss about how great it is to work and live here,” Mr Keyko said.

“From your employer’s perspective, locating your business where your employees actually live can give them hours of their lives back each week, creating motivated workers with more satisfying work and life balances.”

Ms Knezovic said Capital Corporation had seen many firms expand to the Hills and reap the benefits, including more than 560 businesses in Norwest Business Park.

“The Sydney Hills has so much to offer businesses looking to relocate,” she said.

“Everything workers need is close by; lunch time shopping, cafes and off-street parking.”
