Stranger danger warning after North Rocks incidents

STUDENTS are being urged not to accept lifts from strangers following two incidents in North Rocks.

Police are also warning parents not to offer lifts to children they don’t know after two teenage girls were offered lifts by women in separate incidents just days apart.

A 13-year old girl was walking to school along Barclay Rd on Monday, August 2, when a woman drove up alongside her near the Perry St lights by Muirfield Golf Course at about 8am and offered her a lift.

The girl refused and alerted staff when she reached school.

The woman was described as caucasian with brown, curly, shoulder-length hair.

Four days earlier, on Thursday July 29, a girl, 14, was walking home from another high school along McDonald St, North Rocks when a woman in a car drew alongside her at about 3pm and offered her a lift.

The girl refused.

The woman was described as 55-60 years old, fair complexion with distinctive facial spots on nose and cheeks with orange/blond tinted hair driving a black car.

Both incidents are being investigated.

Hills Crime Manager Detective Chief Superintendent Wayne Murray said the drivers may have offered the girls’ lifts innocently because of the weather but said: “If you don’t know the child don’t pick them up”.

He said there would be increased patrols in the area and urged students not to walk to and from school alone.

He also urged the women to call police on 9680 5399 or 1800 333 000.
