Rail link funding 'disaster' in Hills

THE northwest rail link has been left off the Federal Government’s infrastructure priority funding list, adding another setback to the Build it Now campaign.

Hills Shire Mayor Peter Dimbrowsky has blamed this missed opportunity on the NSW Government’s failure to put effort into its submissions for funding.

“It is a disaster that the northwest rail link has not been allocated funds from the Federal Government’s National Infrastructure Priority Fund,” he said.

“We think that with a little bit more work from the State Government directing resources to make this a ready-to-go project we would be eligible for this funding.”

The list was released earlier this month by Infrastructure Australia.

Cr Dimbrowsky said the omission of the northwest rail was a letdown to Hills residents and the more than 10,000 people in the electorates of Ryde, Blacktown, Hawkesbury and Hornsby who travel into the Hills to work.

“The project is at baseline status and could be shovel ready with just a little more spit and polish,” he said.

“The government has funded the purchase of the rail corridor and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on environmental and engineering studies.”

Cr Dimbrowsky said if the State Government could not get the northwest rail shovel-ready then it might be time for local government to make the submissions to Infrastructure Australia.

“The people of northwest Sydney have their shovels ready, madam Premier.”
