Carlingford residents ready for round two in Moseley St

THE controversial proposal for townhouses on Moseley St is back, and Carlingford residents are not happy.

Hills Shire Council refused the previous application for four townhouses in May after residents put up a strong fight against what they saw as a “cheap and nasty” development.

It was refused for being too big, out of character with the area and encroaching on the privacy of neighbours.

The applicant has requested a review of the decision and resubmitted plans with some adjustments.

Two of the townhouses have been reduced from three bedrooms to two and the height at the rear of the development has been reduced to one storey.

The developer claims the original proposal was not refused on proper grounds, as it complied with the State Government’s affordable rental housing policy.

But residents are not satisfied with the changes and are prepared to fight again.

“The minor changes the developer has proposed don’t alter the fact that it is still a horrible monstrosity that is not wanted in our area,” Trigg Ave resident Roy Bolton said.

“We will certainly be protesting against this resubmission and will be trying to get many more people to voice their protest too.”

Cr Andrew Jefferies said he could see no reason to support the resubmission.

“The applicant needs to get the point that the residents don’t want this,” he said.

“Council promised the Carlingford residents that there would be protection from high-rise developments in the area.”

A public rally will be held by residents against the resubmission tomorrow at 7.30pm at St Paul’s Anglican Church.
